The Escape

Our teacher Laura, of language, asked us to read the story ‘The Escape’ and do the excersise 3 from ‘Looking Closely’ of our book, on page 62.

3) Before the girls arrived to the ‘bush’ (the jungle) they walked through some dunes, near the forest of banksia trees, in a shallow valley of deep sand. There, there were rabbit warrens (burrows) and pools at the bottom of the valley. And the eldest sister realized that the rain came from the west over the coast.

There was a day when the sky was grey, like if rain was coming, and there was a cold wind blowing across the bushland.

Another day, they arrived to a landscape full of groups of grass trees, zamia palms; marri, wandoo and mallee gums; a tall brown flooded river gum (Moore River) and paperbarks. On the other side of the river there was a muddy bank.

On their second day, they arrived to a charcoal bushland that had been scorched. The trees and the grass were burnt black. But in a few weeks, thanks to the rain, it would come alive again.

They were escaping from their settlement, in East Palibara.

La Nanotecnología

Ya que estuvimos aprendiendo cómo hacer resúmenes, nuestra maestra de lengua, Carol, nos pidió escribir un resumen sobre qué es la nanotecnología sacando información de diferentes fuentes.

Este es el resumen que yo hice:

La nanotecnología es el estudio, diseño, creación, síntesis, manipulación y aplicación de materiales, aparatos y sistemas funcionales a través del control de la materia a nanoescala (el prefijo «nano» hace referencia a la milésima parte de un milímetro), y la explotación de fenómenos y propiedades de la materia a nanoescala.

Ésta está siendo más empleada en la actualidad, en todo tipo de artefactos, sus usos han aumentado los últimos años ya que permite la creación de muchas cosas. Por ejemplo: la creación de materiales, dispositivos y sistemas mediante la escala del nanómetro; la creación de tejidos y órganos humanos en laboratorio, como hueso humano maduro para trasplantes, hígado, páncreas, que son difíciles de crear a través de otros métodos; la creación de cremas de protección solar con nanopartículas que absorben los rayos UV; la creación de pantallas mejores, más ligeras, finas y flexibles; entre otras cosas.

Se usa en el campo de trabajo de forma esencial es la electrónica y la fabricación de microchips; para cibernética, sistemas computacionales, las empresas de los celulares; en el campo de la seguridad ya que se implanta nanotecnología en gente, presos, autos, celulares también, para ser localizados vía satélite si se llegan a perder, por ejemplo.

En conclusión, la nanotecnología es la manipulación de la materia a escala atómica y molecular y se implementa en la medicina, cibernética, en los electrodomésticos, entre otras cosas.
